The organization focuses on improving livelihoods, strengthening health systems, promoting human rights, and advancing education and environmental conservation. Guided by strong values and a community-centered approach, AASED works to create long-lasting social and economic change across Uganda.

Alpha Action for Social and Economic Development (AASED) is a Ugandan non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for communities especially young people, through sustainable development. Rooted in empowerment, self-reliance, and social responsibility, AASED supports marginalized and underserved groups by addressing key socio-economic challenges. Through programs in sustainable development, health and environment, education and sports, and human rights, AASED works to build resilient, empowered, and equitable communities across Uganda

Community Engagement

AASED reached 203 community members during Social Accountability Champion selection in Bikonzi and Labongo Sub Counties, empowering men and women to participate actively in local governance and accountability processes.

Capacity Building

AASED trained 23 champions through an intensive multi-day program, strengthening community leadership, social accountability skills, and local advocacy for improved service delivery.

Economic Empowerment

We help communities thrive economically by promoting sustainable agriculture, enhancing livelihoods, offering practical vocational training, and supporting SME development, equipping individuals with the skills and opportunities needed to become self-reliant and financially secure.

Natural Resource Management and Environment

We promote environmental conservation and climate-smart practices by working with communities to adopt sustainable natural resource management approaches. Our efforts focus on environmental protection, climate resilience and adaptation, and the conservation of natural resources.

Justice, Human Rights, Governance, and Social Accountability

We champion human rights, justice, and good governance by empowering communities to speak up, advocate for their rights, and hold leaders accountable through robust advocacy and social accountability initiatives.

Education, Intercultural Development, and Sports

We harness the power of education, culture, and sports to promote development, unity, and social inclusion. Our work focuses on early childhood development, improving access to and quality of education, using sports to build health and teamwork, and promoting cultural preservation and intercultural understanding.

Health

We strengthen public health by implementing programs that focus on HIV/AIDS prevention and care, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), nutrition and sexual and reproductive health, as well as the prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Our work also embraces the One Health approach, recognizing the critical link between human, animal, and environmental health.

"For the First Time, We Were Heard"
"For many years, we discussed the challenges affecting our community among ourselves, but we rarely had an opportunity to speak directly to the institutions responsible for fighting corruption and improving public service delivery. Most people felt their voices would not be heard."
"The Public Accountability Anti-Corruption Caravan changed that. During the Community Baraza, I was able to raise concerns affecting our community and speak directly to representatives from the Inspectorate of Government (IG), the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the Uganda Police Force, the Office of the Auditor General (OAG), the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA), and the Directorate of Ethics and Integrity (DEI). Listening to these institutions explain their roles and respond to community concerns gave me confidence that ordinary citizens have an important role in promoting accountability."

"The VSLA Helped Me Believe in My Own Potential"
"My name is Sarah Namusoke, a mother of five from Nakaseke District. Before joining our Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA), life was very difficult. My family depended on small-scale farming, but the income was never enough to meet our needs. Paying school fees, buying food, and meeting medical expenses were constant challenges, and whenever an emergency arose, I had to borrow money at high interest."
"Everything changed when AASED trained our VSLA. I learned that saving is not about how much money you have, but about consistency and discipline. The training equipped us with skills in financial literacy, budgeting, record keeping, group governance, and managing loans responsibly."
"Using my savings and a small loan from the group, I started a poultry project and expanded my vegetable garden. Today, I earn a regular income that helps me provide food for my family, pay school fees on time, and meet household expenses without fear. I have even started saving for the future."
"The VSLA has given me more than financial security—it has restored my confidence. I now participate in community meetings, share ideas with other women, and encourage them to save and invest. We support one another and celebrate each other's progress."

"We Now Know That Our Voices Matter"
"My name is Kanzaala Margaret, and I live in Buliisa District. For many years, we watched public services deteriorate without knowing that we had a role to play in improving them. Health centres often lacked essential medicines, some water points remained broken for months, and we believed there was nothing ordinary citizens could do."
"When AASED introduced us to community social accountability meetings and trained us on citizen monitoring, everything changed. We learned how to identify service delivery gaps, engage local leaders respectfully, and work together to find solutions instead of simply complaining."
"One issue that affected our village was the long delay in repairing a borehole that served many households. During a community dialogue facilitated by AASED, we raised the issue with local leaders and district officials. Together, we followed up through the appropriate channels until action was taken. Today, the borehole is functioning again, and women no longer walk long distances to fetch clean water."
"The biggest change is that we now understand our rights and responsibilities as citizens. We attend community meetings, ask questions about government programmes, and work with our leaders to improve public services. We have learned that accountability is not about conflict, it is about working together for the good of the community."

“Before attending this forum, I feared even asking questions about reproductive health because of the stigma and misinformation in our community. I always thought discussing these issues openly would bring judgment or shame. However, the Legal Literacy and Health Forum helped me understand that seeking information and lawful healthcare is my right. Hearing directly from legal professionals and health experts gave us confidence, clarified many misconceptions, and helped us better understand the law and the importance of safe, compassionate care.
